This adds cache-friendly dynamic tool loading anchored to tool results. Purely additive active-tool changes are recorded with `addedToolNames`, allowing supported Anthropic and OpenAI Responses models to load tool definitions at the point they become available instead of placing them in the cached prompt prefix.
It retains safe fallback behavior for unsupported models and non-additive changes but it will wipe caches.
* feat(coding-agent): add before_provider_headers extension hook
Extensions can already rewrite the request payload through before_provider_request, but there is no way to adjust the outgoing HTTP
headers of a provider call. This hook fills that gap for cases like request tracing, session correlation, or tenant routing.
Handlers mutate the headers map in place - a null value deletes a header - and the return value is ignored, so a handler cannot accidentally drop auth or attribution headers by
forgetting to spread.
* docs(coding-agent): document before_provider_headers extension hook
Add the before_provider_headers section and lifecycle-diagram entry to
extensions.md; drop the now-superseded proposal file.
* feat(coding-agent): add InlineExtension type for named inline extension factories
* test(coding-agent): update utilities and add regression test for InlineExtension
session_before_compact and session_compact now carry
reason ("manual" | "threshold" | "overflow") and willRetry, matching
what the RPC protocol already exposes via auto_compaction_start/end.
Extensions can now distinguish manual /compact from threshold
auto-compaction and overflow recovery through the public API instead
of monkeypatching AgentSession internals.
The root barrel is now core-only and side-effect free: types,
createModels/createProvider, auth substrate, lazyStream/lazyApi, faux,
utils. Generated catalogs, api-registry, env-api-keys, images, global
stream functions, and per-API lazy wrappers leave the root.
New @earendil-works/pi-ai/compat preserves the old surface verbatim as
a strict superset of the root: api-dispatch stream/complete with env
key injection, the builtin registration side effect (skip-if-present so
it cannot clobber earlier overrides), deprecated getModel/getModels/
getProviders aliases of the new getBuiltin* reads in providers/all,
lazy api wrappers + setBedrockProviderModule, and image generation.
Compat dies with the coding-agent ModelManager migration.
Packaging: exports map gains ./compat, ./providers/*, ./api/*;
sideEffects array lists only the effectful modules.
Old-global imports across agent/coding-agent/examples and pi-ai tests
switch to /compat (path-only; compat is a superset). The coding-agent
extension loader resolves the pi-ai ROOT specifier to compat, so
existing user extensions using the old global API keep working at
runtime until compat is removed. vitest configs alias /compat to src;
browser smoke imports old globals from /compat.
Add streamingBehavior to InputEvent so extensions can distinguish
idle prompts from mid-stream steers and queued follow-ups.
- Add streamingBehavior field to InputEvent type
- Thread it through ExtensionRunner.emitInput() and AgentSession.prompt()
- Add streaming-aware input gate example with tests
- Document in extensions.md
Swaps hardcoded "pi" / ".pi" / "π" for the existing APP_NAME and
CONFIG_DIR_NAME extension points at four sites the original APP_NAME
rollout missed:
- /quit slash-command description
- process.title (cli.ts and bun/cli.ts)
- project-local extensions dir in loader.ts
For the terminal title, adds an APP_TITLE export in config.ts that
keeps pi's "π" glyph when piConfig.name is unset and falls back to
APP_NAME otherwise. Presence of piConfig.name acts as the "has been
rebranded" signal, so pi's own package.json drops the redundant
"name": "pi" (the existing `|| "pi"` fallback in config.ts makes this
a no-op for APP_NAME).
No behavior change for pi itself: process.title, /quit description,
terminal title prefix, and project-local extensions dir all resolve
to the same values as before.
closes#3476
* fix(typebox): migrate to v1 with extension compat
Replace AJV-based validation with TypeBox-native validation, keep legacy extension imports working (including @sinclair/typebox/compiler), and restore coercion for serialized/plain JSON schemas.
This change closes#3112.
* fix(typebox): use canonical imports and harden coercion
Switch first-party code to canonical typebox imports while retaining legacy extension aliases in the loader.
Remove obsolete runtime codegen guards, expand serialized JSON-schema coercion coverage, and update related tests and fixtures.
Fixes#3112.

* feat(agent,coding-agent): add per-tool executionMode field to AgentTool and ToolDefinition
Add optional executionMode?: ToolExecutionMode to AgentTool and
ToolDefinition interfaces. Propagate through wrapToolDefinition and
createToolDefinitionFromAgentTool. No behavioral change yet — agent
loop will read this field in a follow-up.
* feat(agent): support per-tool executionMode override for sequential execution
When a tool defines executionMode='sequential', the agent loop
forces sequential execution of all tool calls in that batch,
even if the global config is parallel.
* feat(coding-agent): re-export ToolExecutionMode from @mariozechner/pi-agent-core
Makes the type available to extensions that want to set
executionMode on tool definitions.
* feat(coding-agent): add tic-tac-toe extension example with executionMode: sequential
Demonstrates per-tool executionMode: the agent plays via move/play
tool calls that share a cursor. Without sequential execution, play
can resolve before earlier moves finish, landing on the wrong cell.
